Students and Evernote

  • Note taking can become much more simplified with this tool and I would love to have my students take notes and share them for all the class as I feel student learn more when collaborative learning takes place. Note taking may be used in all subjects and in the higher grade levels - 6th grade and above. Additionally, I would like them to also add audio, pictures, even sketches to help them remember the content in their notes. .
  • Organizing projects - any type of projects, for any subject but I was thinking specifically research projects. Projects where students have to collect information from many sources and Evernote is a tool that can organize all the information in one place. It can assist students in organizing their research and in turn their thoughts and ideas making it easier for them to complete their projects. This is an idea for teens/young adults in high school.
  • Student Portfolios - I love the idea of portfolios to showcase our students' progress and hard work throughout the year, and now with technology we can have online portfolios. The awesome concept of being able to now add pictures and audio can make online portfolios much more interesting than the good old regular student portfolios. Students can make notes, upload their projects and assignments, add pictures and audio, and then share their portfolios with me and their classmates. I would use portfolios maybe in an 7th grate English course to evaluate student writing.

  1. Good blog, but I really like the idea on student portfolios. This tool does allow them to add video clips and pictures to show of their portfolios, and even share and get ideas from each other as well.

  2. I liked all the ideas you wanted to implement for your 6th graders. I believe that in order for our students to be successful, taking notes is a skill they should master, from middle school to college. Having them type their notes instead of the hideous paper and pencil method would accomplish a greater amount of student involvement.

  3. Hi Marina,
I also thought that Evernote could be used when students are doing research. Too often during research students lose some of their notes and end up having to look up the same information twice. This tool will enable them to stay organized and make research more valuable because they get to add visuals and audio.

  4. Hey Marina,
You presented some very good uses for implementing Evernote into the classroom. In particular, the idea of using Evernote during/for student portfolios. That is an idea I never thought of and I think it would be great and fit in very well with how student portfolios are set up, graded and shared.

  5. Marina,
I too believe in collaborative learning. In my classroom, I always have my students share notes with each other and process a new set of notes with the information they learned from their peers. Like you said, Evernote would make this process so much easier and better organized. I also love your idea of using the program to create student portfolios. This could help them in the future with assignments such as creating resumes in their technology classes.

  6. Hi Marina,

If you implement research projects in your 6th grade class using Evernote notebooks I bet this is going to work great! Working in research projects is where integrated teamwork becomes vital and Evernote is one of several Web 2.0 tools that we can use to establish a better communication between students and between students and teachers, so the more teamwork practiced, the more opportunity exists for students to learn the important skills of compromise and collaboration.
